2015 wrap up

Posted by on Feb 12, 2016 in Latest News | 0 comments

What a massive year 2015 was! So busy we haven’t had time to update the latest news! The Sailfish season was awesome, the best I have seen in the last 9 years. We had an awesome early season bite in April, May and June! The bite steadied through July and then began to fire back up from August on.

We ended up with a total of 293 Sails and 11 Black Marlin. We also took out The Billfish Foundations top tagging Captain for Sailfish in the Indian Ocean!

In July we competed in the Fatty’s Day Billfish Comp and the Broome Billfish Classic. We where stoked to take first place in the Fatty’s comp, first in the BBC 7.5m+ class and second in the BBC overall.

In August we filmed a show with Rob Paxevanous from fishing Australia. We had a ball and put him onto a couple of Sails and a Black.

September, October and November kept us busy with Sailfish charters and from the end of November until now we have been running creek charters chasing Barramundi and Threadfin Salmon.

It won’t be long before the Contender goes back in the water and the Sails start to show up again at the end of March. If your interested in getting stuck into some of Broome’s red hot Sailfish action, get in contact now to avoid missing out as we are currently getting a lot of advanced bookings through for the season ahead.

Sailfish have been absolutely rampaging for our fishing charters off Broome!

May and June has seen an absolutely phenomenal start to the Broome Sailfish season! We have been regularly enjoying days of 5-12 Sailfish and only a very small hand full of slower days has seen us encountering less then 5 sails for a day.

The Sails are in close on some off Broome’s inshore grounds at the moment, and they are hanging around giant schools of juvenile Long Jaw Mackerel. Most days we are seeing multiple pods of up to 10+ Sails carving up the surface of the ocean as they feed on these small baitfish! Its just a matter of driving up to them and pitching a small bait in front of their nose and away you go!

Our Sailfish count is rapidly rising and it is shaping up to be a bumper season for Broome! Get in contact now if you are interested in being a part of our awesome fishery this year as we are booking up fast!

Broome’s inshore and offshore reefs has been producing excellent fishing for charters through May and June!

Throughout May and June we have had some sensational fishing on our reef and sportfishing charters off Broome. We’ve spent a lot of days working jigs and soft plastics along the shallow reefs for some very good results. Plenty of coral trout, Blue Bone, Blue Line Emperor, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel, Queenfish and Golden Trevally have fallen victim!

We have also fished wider in the deeper water for some good feeds of Red Emperor, Saddle Tail, Finger Mark and Rankin Cod. The fishing off Broome has a lot too offer so get in contact to see what package we can put together for you!

Top Tagging Captain for 2014!!

Captain Jeda is absolutely stoked to have been awarded The Billfish Foundation’s Top Tagging Captain for Sailfish in the Indian Ocean for 2014. We are very lucky to be fishing in one of Australia’s best Sailfish locations and encounter the hundreds of fish that we do each year! A massive thank you to all of our valued clients who travelled to Broome in 2014 to catch some of our spectacular Sailfish and we look forward to fishing with you all again in the future!

Broome’s 2015 Sailfish season has kicked off with a bang!

Posted by on May 4, 2015 in Latest News | 0 comments

April saw the water temp on the Broome Sailfish grounds drop by 4 degrees and the fishing has gone crazy! We had numerous charters out there catching a lot of anglers their first Sails. The best day for April was 10 Sails for Tom, Rex and Toby (all sailfish virgins) in the first two hours of fishing! There where big pods of Sails on the surface everywhere and we would have seen around 60 fish for the morning!

Sportfish has been steady and on the days where the Sailfish bite has slowed we’ve had plenty of Mackies, Tuna and Trevally to keep us entertained. The Mackies have been fairly solid fish with some of the bigger ones in the 120cm range.

From April right through to November our focus moves away from the bay charters and is set on Billfish. Over the next 8 months of cool water we should see the phenomenal numbers of Sailfish that Broome is well known for! If your interested in a charter, get in contact now as dates are filling fast!

Charters in Broome’s Roebuck Bay are continuing to produce awesome fishing!

Posted by on May 4, 2015 in Latest News | 0 comments

Broome’s Roebuck Bay is continuing to produce awesome fishing for our bay charters. Through April we had plenty of days encountering good numbers of Threadfin Salmon and some big Jewies on the shallow flats. The pictures below are from a charter in late April when Nick and Pete pulled some 20 Threadies and 4 Jewies for the session. Biggest Jewfish for the day was 118cm.

End of the wet season, bring on Billfish season!!

The wet season has wrapped up here in Broome and the weather is just starting to cool. We experienced some great fishing during our wet season charters targeting Roebuck Bays plentiful Barra, Mulloway, Triple Tail and Threadfin Salmon. Some of our more memorable days through the wet saw us landing huge Mulloway on the flats in water as shallow as 1.5 metres! We also had some impressive days on the Triple Tail sight casting to up to 30 fish in a session.

The weather cooling down means one thing… Billfish! we’ve already encountered a trickle of Sailfish and Marlin and the season is only just kicking off. If your interested in getting amongst Broome’s awesome fishery, get in contact now as we have limited charter dates left for the 2015 season!

Perfect day on the Sails for Greg!

Posted by on Nov 24, 2014 in Latest News | 0 comments

On the 3rd November Greg Nickolson decided to book a day out with us and try his hand at switch baiting sailfish. On the run out to the grounds he was telling me about the vast amount of fishing he does around the areas I used to fish back in South Australia, but had never targeted Billfish before. The session that followed was an amazing experience for Greg that any seasoned sailfish angler would be proud of, let alone someone doing it for the first time!

We throttled off at the southern end of the shoal we where to fish for the day and set the spread of teasers. I then ran Greg through the process of how to switch bait off the teasers. It only took about 20 minutes before we had a solid sail up which, with a little coaching, was switched perfectly and tagged 10 minutes later. Greg was ecstatic with his first every capture of a Sail. The next two hours were dead slow as we worked our way north along the shoal… I was beginning to think the fish had vanished! Late morning some 7 miles further north we came across a patch of free jumping sails and all hell broke lose. For the next two hours there was barely a moment when Greg wasn’t attached to a fish. He went on the finish the day with a perfect conversion of 10 from 10 bites. He didn’t miss a single bite or drop a hooked fish! This is an unbelievable achievement for any angler in a day, let alone someone having a crack for the first time!! The fish were so hot I even took the opportunity to pitch a bait a sailfish swimming past the boat while Greg was hooked up, which was quite exciting getting a double with only two of us on the boat. So we ended out day with a total of 11 fish and left them biting for the fairly long run home.
